ThermiVa

What is ThermiVa?
Nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation utilizing ThermiRF® technology. The tissues are gently heated to the desired temperature to stimulate changes in collagen and elastin and tightening in the area. Patients report improved lubrication, stimulation and less stress urinary continence (leakage of urine with activity, sneezing, coughing or laughing.)

How long will the procedure take?

The procedure is performed in the office in a private, comfortable room and does not require any anesthesia. Each treatment takes about an hour; the protocol is for 3 treatments spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are scheduled when the patient notices some lapse in improvement or at least every 6 months.

What kind of anesthesia will I have?

No anesthesia is required. The treatment feels warm and is well tolerated by the majority of patients.

What is recovery like?

There is no significant recovery. Patients can resume full activity at the completion of the procedure, including intercourse.

What are the risks?

There is a potential for burning the tissues but this is very unusual.

How do I prepare for surgery?

When the procedure is scheduled, limitations and restrictions are reviewed and this is again reviewed the day of each treatment. Patients that are pregnant, have had recent pelvic infections, have a pacemaker or a defibrillator are not candidates for the procedure. The area should be waxed or shaved in advance of the treatment to allow direct contact with the skin; stubble can results in some discomfort and burning.
